What First Aid Supplies Should I Keep in My Car?

For many of us, our car/vehicle is like a second home. Whether we go to the park, office, shopping, camping, exploring, or movies, our vehicle will usually remain nearby. This makes the car a perfect place to keep a well stocked First Aid Kit - you just never know when you might need it.

As well as that keeping good quality first aid supplies at hand means you are well prepared for anything that might come your way while on the road.

What first aid supplies should I keep in my car?

When determining what first aid supplies to keep in your car we like to start by understanding where you take your car and what you use it for. Afterall, the requirements for a family vehicle first aid kit is going to be somewhat different to the first aid supplies needed for a field service vehicle.

First aid kit supplies should be personalised and suit your circumstances. Therefore, before purchasing first aid supplies or a vehicle first aid kit, we suggest you answer the following important questions:

How far am I likely to be driving?

The further you travel, or the more often you travel, the more likely you will encounter a scenario requiring first aid supplies and the more important it becomes to have a variety of supplies. If you are just running about town and never really go far, a simple first aid kit like our Compact Lone Worker/Vehicle Kit could be a great place to start.

For a bit of a more comprehensive kit something like our  Advanced Driver or 1-5 PersonFirst Aid Kit could be better options. Both come in a soft pack and so can be squeezed into the tight spaces available in a car.

Who will be in the vehicle with me?

For example, If you are traveling alone, you are more likely to require extensive first aid supplies as it is possible you could be the person who needs to administer your own first aid. If you are travelling with children you’ll want to stock items that can sooth sunburn or relieve insect bites or patch a grazed leg.

How far away from assistance will I be?

The further away from the assistance you'll be, the more crucial it is to have a well-stocked first-aid kit that can cater to various scenarios. For instance, if you are traveling to a remote location with no hospitals or clinics in nearby proximity, you are all on your own.

We recommend you carry more extensive first aid supplies than you'll find in the majority of ready made First Aid Kits. For example, items like a splint, or trauma bandage, splinter probes or other non-standard first aid kit items really help you out while no one else is around.

Will I have phone coverage?

This question ties in into the previous question. If you are travelling in an area without phone coverage, it will make it so much harder to get assistance so it becomes much more important to have a first aid kit that is stocked with a variety of first aid supplies.

  • What will I be doing when I arrive at my destination?

If your vehicle is being used for jobs like a field service agent, your first aid kit will need more extensive first aid supplies than if you are simply using your vehicle to collect the groceries and visit friends and family. We find splinter probesand Burn Gels make a great addition for campers and field service agents.

What are the road conditions like where I will be traveling?

Not all paths are alike. The more treacherous the conditions, the more extensive your first aid supplies need to be.

How much space is there in my vehicle for a first aid kit?

This question could limit the type of first aid kit that you can carry in your vehicle. Not all first aid kits are available in squeezable pouches. Many of the first aid kits we sell come in packs we call "soft packs" or "space savers." They are perfect for vehicles because they come in smaller, more compact first aid pouches and bags that can be squeezed into tighter spaces like the underneath of a vehicle seat, the glove box, or the pocket behind the drivers and passenger seats. If you are looking for something that is a little more accessible, our velcro packsare a great option to consider as well

The best part is, although these first aid kits are squeezable, they still contain all the essential supplies one should carry on the road in affordable price packages.
